Can the government take away your plane?...

Hi there,

Thank you for being part of the Virk Trade Compliance weekly newsletter! If you like the series, don’t forget to recommend and share it with others! If you have any feedback (good or bad), feel free to reach out to me at [email protected].

I’d love to hear from you!

Training Updates

Customs Brokerage Sales Training Course - It’s almost there. I’ve been working behind the scenes to trim the course down by few hours and only give you guys the BEST of the training material, without wasting your time. This training course will be absolutely amazing if you’re in sales or if you have a sales team. It took longer than expected, but it’s getting there.

I can’t wait to share it you!

Global Trade Compliance Updates

  • For the first time, U.S. is thinking about not giving back refunds if/when they re-instate the GSP program - crazy I know! But it’s how governments work, I guess.

  • You still have time to comment on the Section 301 Exclusion for U.S. until Feb 21st.

  • U.S. seized Venezuelan airplane over export control.

  • U.S. thinking of putting Byte Dance on their export control list.

  • Sri-Lanka and Thailand sign an FTA.

  • French farmers are not happy with the EU Trade Agreements.

  • Mexico becomes U.S.’ biggest vendor rather than China for the first time ever.

  • India-China trade agreement has increased trade between the two countries more than ever.

Compliance Tips

  • If you have an LCB in the U.S., make sure to pay that Triennial Free. Can’t be compliant if you no longer have a valid license!

  • Get ready for CARM phase-2 if you’re not ready yet - it’s right upon us (as long as it doesn’t get pushed out again).

  • Make sure you have the correct role within the CARM portal.'

  • Know that exporting goods can have more than one ECCN number - so do it the right way.

  • If you don’t store records on your end as an importer/exporter - ask your Customs Brokers to set up an sFTP right away and get those records asap.

Career Advise

  • Never stop adding to your resume.

  • As you work, make a task list for all the tasks you do - this doesn’t only serve as a reminder for all you’ve done at year-end, it also allows you to go back and add all the good stuff to your resume as needed.

  • Never stop interviewing - even if you’re not looking for a job. You need know what’s out there and whether you are getting paid fairly.
